Privacy statement

Last updated:

BottleClub is a wine club in your pocket. To run it we need a little information about you, and this page says plainly what that is, why we keep it, and what you can do about it.

Who we are

BottleClub runs the BottleClub app and this website. Questions about your data go to info@bottleclub.nl.

What we keep

Your account: your email address, your name, a username and, if you add one, a picture. Your password is never visible to us; sign-in is handled by our authentication provider. If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive the name and email address you agree to share there.

What you add to the club: the wines in your Cellar, your tastings (rating, notes, the characteristics you noticed, where you drank it, a photo if you took one) and the answers you gave when you set up the app.

Your learning: which lessons you finished, the answers you gave, exam results, and your energy (how full the bottle is that paces learning, and when it refills).

Ads you chose to watch: when, what for (energy or keeping your streak) and whether it paid out, so each ad rewards once and the daily limit holds.

Your friends: the friend requests you send and accept.

Your settings: the app’s language, your notification choices and your time zone, so reminders and quiet hours follow your local time. If you allow notifications, we keep a push token for each phone, so we can reach it; it’s removed when you sign out there or delete your account.

Feedback you send from the app: your message, the kind of feedback, and the app version, platform and language, so we can trace a problem.

Your location is used only on your phone, when you tap “near me” on the map. We don’t store it.

Your membership: whether you have BottleClub Plus, as reported by the App Store or Google Play once Plus is available. We never see your payment details.

Technical basics: our hosting providers keep the usual short-lived connection logs needed to run a service securely.

Why we keep it

To run the club for you: show your Cellar, remember your tastings, keep your place on the learning path, and let you find friends by username.

To make the club feel shared: friends you’ve accepted see your profile. You choose whether they also see your wine level and the wines you’ve tasted, with your ratings; we ask you after you create your account, and you can change it any time in Settings. Your tasting notes stay private unless you choose to share them.

To send the notifications you allow: friend requests, reminders to keep learning, and now and then a story from the club. Never more than one a day, and nothing at night.

To answer you when you write to us, and to improve BottleClub with the feedback you send.

We don’t sell your data, and we don’t build advertising profiles. Free members can choose to watch a short ad, for energy or to keep their streak. An ad never plays on its own, and Plus has none.

Who else sees it

The providers that store and run BottleClub for us: our database and authentication provider (Supabase, with your data stored in the European Union), Expo (which delivers notifications and app updates), Apple and Google (the app stores, sign-in if you choose it, and the delivery of notifications to your phone), and Strato (which hosts this website and our email, and sends the waitlist’s emails). They process data only to provide those services to us.

Google (AdMob), only when you choose to watch an ad: Google shows the ad and needs some information about your phone to do so, such as its IP address, model and the app. In the European Union and the UK, Google first asks your consent; you can change your answer any time in the app, in Settings → Privacy → Ad privacy choices. On an iPhone, the ad is personalised only if you allow tracking when the app asks, and only then does Google receive your phone’s advertising identifier. To credit your reward, Google sends us a random code for that one ad, never your name or email address. Google’s privacy policy applies to what it does: policies.google.com/privacy.

The BottleClub team reads the feedback you send.

Other members see your public profile (username, name, picture) when they look for you, and your accepted friends see what you choose to share with them. Nobody outside the club does.

The waitlist

If you join the waitlist on this website, we keep your email address, your first name if you give it, the language you read the site in, and when you asked for the launch email and confirmed it (we email you a link to check it’s really you). To keep the form from being misused, we also keep a hashed form of your IP address, for one day, and Cloudflare Turnstile checks that a person is joining: for that check Cloudflare sees your IP address and some details of your browser, as described in its privacy policy (cloudflare.com/turnstile-privacy-policy). It only starts when you begin filling in the form. We use it for one thing: a single email when BottleClub is in the App Store and Google Play, sent from our own mailbox at Strato. That email has a link to unsubscribe. To have your entry removed altogether, write to info@bottleclub.nl.

This website

This website sets no cookies and runs no analytics or tracking. It only asks for something when you join the waitlist (see above). The links to the App Store and Google Play go to those services, which have their own policies.

How long

As long as you have an account. You can delete it yourself in the app (Settings → Account → Delete account), or ask us at info@bottleclub.nl. Your account and everything in it are deleted for good: your profile, Cellar, tastings and photos, learning progress, friends, settings and notification devices. Feedback you sent stays with the team, without your name. Connection logs at our providers expire on their own after a short time.

If you joined the waitlist but never confirmed your email address, your entry is deleted after 90 days. A confirmed entry stays until you unsubscribe or ask us to remove it. After you unsubscribe we keep your address marked as unsubscribed, so we never email you again.

Your rights

You can ask to see what we hold about you, have it corrected, have it deleted, or receive a copy to take elsewhere. With an account you can make a copy yourself in the app (Settings → Privacy → Download my data). For anything else, write to info@bottleclub.nl. If you feel we haven’t handled your data properly, you can also complain to the data protection authority in your country.

Changes

When BottleClub changes in a way that matters for your data, this page changes with it, and the date at the top moves. The current version always lives at this address.
